Baar lies on the Lorze plain north of the town of Zug, between the Zugerberg and the Albis, and is the canton's second-largest municipality by population. Besides the village itself, it includes the hamlets of Allenwinden, Blickensdorf, Inwil, Deinikon and Walterswil. It is known for the parish church of St. Martin, the Baarburg hill with traces of settlement from the Bronze Age onwards, and the Räbefasnacht carnival.
