The government building at Seestrasse 2 was built between 1868 and 1873 in the neo-Renaissance style to plans by the Zurich architects Johann Caspar Wolff and Caspar Otto Wolff. It is the first building constructed specifically for the government of the Canton of Zug. The cantonal parliament meets once a month in the parliament chamber, and the cantonal government meets weekly in the government room. The garden towards the lake goes back to a plan by Evariste Mertens from 1889.
