The municipality of Risch lies on a spur of the Rooterberg between Lake Zug to the east and the Reuss to the west. It consists of Rotkreuz, where the municipal administration is based and more than 80 per cent of the population live, and the villages of Risch, Buonas and Holzhäusern. It is known for the parish church of St. Verena in Risch, whose tower dates from 1310, and Buonas castle on a peninsula in Lake Zug.
